Thomas Antonic

BIAAS issued a grant for $8,600 to Thomas Antonic in order to write a biography on the Austrian-American poet ruth weiss. The project included both archival research and oral history interviews with weiss and other contemporary witnesses, resulting in over 30 hours of interviews. In addition, Antoinc recorded jazz and poetry performances by weiss and had access to her private archives. The goal of the grant is to complete a monograph on the life of weiss as well as produce scholarly film on her work and influence.

Thomas Antonic studied at the University of Vienna where he received his Ph.D. in German studies. Antonic has been the Max Kade Fellow at the Department of German Studies at the University of California, Berkeley as well as a project assistant at the University of Vienna.
