The Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies (BIAAS) seeks grant proposals for projects aimed at promoting an understanding of the historic relationship between the United States and Austria (including Habsburg Austria).
Fields of Interest
Eligible fields include, but are not limited to, history, politics, economics, law, cultural studies, and public history.
What We Fund
Applications may include support for research, publications, and web/media projects. Salary replacement and/or tuition are not eligible. Those seeking support for events should see BIAAS’s Event Grants here.
The maximum funding an applicant may seek is $25,000; there is no minimum request.
Only grant applications submitted through BIAAS’s online application system will be considered. All first-time users must create an account prior to beginning the application process. Once an account has been created, users can begin to fill out and save the application within the system prior to submission. Applicants are encouraged to review the application questions here prior to filling out the application.
Please note: designated applicant must be the principal investigator of research proposed.
All applications are due by 5:00 PM EST March 31, 2022. Applicants will be notified of the results of their applications in June 2022. Grants will be distributed before September 1, 2022, with the grant award period beginning on September 1, 2022, and ending on August 31, 2023. A final report will be due within ninety days after the completion date of the award period. Please note: Grantees who fail in their reporting requirements or otherwise misuse funds may be deemed ineligible to reapply for funding.

In addition to providing funding opportunities BIAAS furthers its mission by organizing events; publishing the Journal of Austrian-American History; and engaging with a broader public audience through digital programming to further cultivate a connected online community interested in Austrian-American Studies. Our strategy focuses on our grantees; accordingly, we encourage applications that facilitate promotion of grantee work and work products.
In particular, grantees interested in contributing to BIAAS’s Austro-American Blog Series, or publishing the results of their research in the Journal of Austrian-American History are encouraged to apply.
