Application Process

Applicants are encouraged to review the FAQ page prior to submitting a proposal.

Proposals will require a narrative description (which provides a justification for the project, conveying the ideas objectives, methods, and work plan. The applicant should also describe the significance of the proposed project pertaining to Austrian-American studies, including its value to scholars and/or general audiences. A simple statement of need or intent is insufficient.), an itemized and reasonably detailed budget (US Dollars), a description of other funding/support, a curriculum vitae of no more than three pages for the project director or chief investigator, a bibliography, two letters of reference, and a completed proposal summary form (PDF provided). In addition, relevant organizations will need to include their 501(c)(3) IRS determination letters and board member lists. All of these documents should be combined in a single PDF, in the order stipulated here, and submitted to with the subject, [Last Name, Research or Project Grant Proposal, Year].

Please note: The designated applicant must be the principal investigator or chief person responsible for the work proposed.

All complete proposals are thoroughly evaluated. BIAAS may require additional information. Any discussions or indications of interest should not be interpreted as a commitment to support the research or project. Financial and narrative reports are due 90 days after the completion of the research or project.

All proposals are due by 5:00 PM EST March 1, 2023. Applicants will be notified of the results of their proposals in June 2023. Grants will be distributed before September 1, 2023, with the grant award period beginning on September 1, 2023, and ending on August 31, 2024.
