Robert Lackner

BIAAS granted $20,000 to Robert Lackner in order to conduct research on the life of Hugo Botstiber for a dissertation. The grant funded a number of research trips to Vienna, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The research focused both on Hugo’s personal life as well as his achievements for Viennese music life. The project culminated in a presentation at the “Quiet Invaders” conference in Vienna in 2015 as well as a Lackner’s 300 page dissertation Concert Life between Tradition and Innovation: Hugo Botstiber and the Viennese Music Scene from the Fin de Siècle to the Anschluss completed in 2014.


Robert Lackner received his Ph.D. at the University of Graz under Siegfried Beer. He has worked as a researcher at the Austrian Center for Intelligence, Propaganda, and Security Studies.
