Raymond Jonas

BIAAS awarded a grant to Raymond Jonas for $5,000 in order to study Archduke Maximilian and his wife Charlotte’s rule as Emperor and Empress of Mexico. Jonas project sought to re-frame the understanding of empire and imperialism in the late modern period, linking contiguous empire with empire abroad. The project will result in a book manuscript and a digital hosting of archival material.

Raymond Jonas earned in Ph.D. in History from the University of California at Berkeley and has worked as a professor at the University of Washington since 1985.
