Christian Kravagna

BIAAS granted $7,150 to Christian Kravagna for a project to examine unexplored relations between Austrian artists/intellectuals and African American artists/intellectuals during the 1920s and 1930s. The project will examine such people as Anna Nussbaum and W.E.B. Du Bois in order to understand the connections between Austrians and African Americans devoted to the social and cultural advancement of disenfranchised groups. The study will result in a book as well as an exhibit at the Wien Museum.

Christian Kravagna has served as the professor of Postcolonial Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna since 2006 and has curated numerous exhibits at museums in Austria.
