Peter Pirker

BIAAS granted Peter Pirker $4,113 to research the Vienna Bureau of Radio Free Europe and its activities in the 1950’s. The project involved travel and living expenses for a month of research at the Hoover Institution in Stanford. The project resulted in an article, “Radio Free Europe in Österreich,” published in 2015 in the book Bananen, Cola, Zeitgeschichte: Der Historiker Oliver Rathkolb und das lange 20. Jahrhundert.

Peter Pirker earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Vienna and worked as a lecturer and researcher at the university. He has since lead a project on the politics of remembrance for the University of Vienna.
