Gerald Sommer

BIAAS granted $16,500 to Gerald Sommer in order to fund a project on the Austrian-American author Paul Elbogen, with the aim collecting information for a databases to encourage future research on Elbogen. The project included a creation of a bibliography listing over 1,000 works on Paul Elbogen as well as a catalog of all the papers of Elbogen in archives in the U.S., Germany, and Austria. Furthermore, the funds helped create an Elbogen library and a research intuition. In addition, Sommer used the funds to organization a conference at University of California Davis in October of 2010 and presented two papers based on the research.


Gerald Sommer studied and received his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna and has served as chairman of the Heimito von Doderer Society as well as editor of the society’s publications.
