Martin Nedbal

BIAAS issued a grant of $5,575 to Martin Nedbal for a project to study criticism of Mozart’s operas by Paul Nettl and Alexander von Zemlinsky, two prominent Central European immigrants to the United States. Nedbal seeks to clarify how Mozart’s operas became highly politicized and served various nationalist agendas throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The project will result in two chapters for an upcoming monograph.

Martin Nedbal earned a Ph.D. in Musicology from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester and has worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas.
