Scott McDowell

BIAAS awarded a grant to Scott McDowell for $7,812 in order to examine the years-long diplomatic negotiations that took place between the U.S. and Austria-Hungary in the wake of the Lattimer Massacre in 1897. The project looks into problems relating to the relationship between sovereignty and international law and transnational labor during the end of the nineteenth century. The project involved research in Washington D.C. and across Pennsylvania and will result in part of McDowell’s dissertation.

Scott McDowell is a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of Minnesota.
