Waldemar Zacharasiewicz

BIAAS awarded a grant to Waldemar Zacharasiewicz for $11,628 to conduct research on interactions between the foreign correspondents of American newspapers and Vienna’s intellectual and artistic elite. The project occurred over six weeks and involved research trips to Syracuse University, the University of Delaware, Yale University, the University of Chicago, Indiana University, and the University of Nebraska. Through the grant Zacharasiewicz was able to find research to aid in the writing of chapters for a draft monograph as well as complete an article, “Inspiration at the Crossroads,” for an edited volume entitled Nach Wien! Sehnsucht, Distanzierung, Suche. Furthermore, the grant allowed the finalization of information for a volume he was editing entiled Narratives of Encounters in the North Atlantic Triangle, in addition to an article appearing that volume.

Waldemar Zacharasiewicz earned his Ph.D. from the University of Graz in 1967 and is a professor emeritus of American Studies at the University of Vienna. He has served as the Director of the Centre for Canadian Studies at the university from 1998 to 2014 and has chaired a research committee for the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
