Vincent Kling

BIAAS awarded a $6,401 grant to Vincent Kling in order to conduct research on literary translation, focusing on how books are selected to be translated. The funds cover travel and other expenses to archives and libraries in Vienna, Austria, Atlanta, Georgia, and Princeton, New Jersey. The project resulted in two articles by Kling: “’The Ghostliness of Translation’: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Anthony Hecht, and Progressive Universal Poetry.” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Title: Commerce, Culture, and Context in Translations of Literary Titles.”.

Vincent Kling studied at Temple University where he was awarded his Ph.D. in 1990. He has taught at La Salle University in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and with a focus on translation of German and Austrian works.
