Sina Hoche - VALIE EXPORT in Context: Transatlantic Affinities between Performance Art and the Women’s Liberation Movement in Austria and the U.S.

Sina Hoche received a BIAAS grant for her project “VALIE EXPORT in Context: Transatlantic Affinities between Performance Art and the Women’s Liberation Movement in Austria and the U.S.”  in which she will be examining sketches, drafts, recordings, and other works stored at the VALIE EXPORT Research Center in Linz, Austria and the MoMA in New York City.

These works will provide essential insights into EXPORT’s engagement with U.S. performance artists and the women’s liberation movement. The aim of her project is to strengthen the current trend in both Austrian and American Studies to reconsider the significance of feminist performance art from the late 1960s and their legacy today.

Sina Hoche received her Bachelor’s degree in German and English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Würzburg and her Master’s degree in German Studies and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies from Harvard University, where she is currently a doctoral candidate and teaching fellow.
