Robert Dassanowsky

BIAAS issued a grant for $10,000 to Robert Dassanowsky in order to fund a book studying film in Vienna under Austrofascism. The project included research trips to Vienna at the Film Archives and Austrian State Archives as well as to Los Angeles to the Warner Brothers Archive and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Library and Archives. The grant also covered editing of the manuscript and a translation of a chapter for a presentation at the Jewish Film Festival in Vienna. The work resulted in the completion of the book, Screening Transcendence: Film Under Austrofascism and the Hollywood Hope 1933–1938, which is set to be published in 2016.


Robert Dassanowsky earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles and has been as a professor of German and Film at the University of Colorado. He also served as the director of Film Studies at the university and as the CEO of Belvedere Film.
