Petra Mayrhofer and Oliver Rathkolb

BIAAS awarded a grant for $7,500 to Petra Mayrhofer and Oliver Rathkolb to study the role of the Ford Foundation in establishing and fostering Vienna as a base for East-West research cooperation during the Cold War. The project involved a five week research trip to the Kennedy Library in Boston, the Hoover Intuition Archives in Stanford, and the Rockefeller Archive Center in Tarrytown, NY. The goal of the project was to provide research that would contribute an article on the scientific cooperation during the Cold War.


Petra Mayrhofer is a Ph.D. candidate in History for the University of Vienna and has served a tutor and researcher in the Department of Contemporary History.

Oliver Rathkolb earned his Ph.D. from the University of Vienna in 1982 and has been a professor at the university in the Department of Contemporary History.
