Joanna Curtis

Joanna Curtis received a BIAAS grant to examine Austrian musical life and cultural diplomacy during the Cold War.Curtis is interested in the Second Republic’s role as culture broker and self-proclaimed cultural superpower in global perspective. Her research will also examine the social utility of culture, especially music, that subtended cultural policy after Nazism, across the conjuncture of 1968.


Joanna Curtis is a Ph.D. candidate in Modern European History at New York University. She holds a BA in History, German and Music from Swarthmore College and an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
