Jacqueline Vansant

BIAAS awarded Jacqueline Vansant a $25,000 grant in order to take a sabbatical from the University of Michigan to complete research for her book, Austria: Made in Hollywood, which examines how Austria is portrayed in American films set in Austria between 1919 and the present. The grant fund research in Los Angeles at the University of California and the Warner Library at the University of Southern California. Through the research, Vansant was able to finish a draft of the book’s second chapter as well as give a number of lectures on the topic in the United States and Austria.


Jacqueline Vansant studied at the University of Texas at Austin and reviewed her Ph.D. with a focus on Austrian literature and culture. She is a Professor of German at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters.
