Helga Schreckenberger

BIAAS awarded a $2,000 grant to Helga Schreckenberger for a ten day research trip to Los Angeles in order to study the Austrian screenwriter Salka Viertel. The grant covered the cost of transportation and living expenses, and allowed Schreckenberger to visit Academy Film Library at the Margaret Herrick Library. The project contributed to a presentation on women’s networks in Hollywood for a conference organized by Schreckenberger called Networks in Exile as well as a number of other presentations on Viertel.

Helga Schreckenberger earned her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas in 1985 and has served as the chair of the German Department at the University of Vermont. She has published numerous works on 20th century Austrian and exile literature.
