Heather Morrison

BIAAS issued a grant for $16,273 to Heather Morrison in order to conduct research on the lives of five Austrians who came to America in the 18th Century for a botanical expedition and the trajectories of their lives after they separated. The research involved trips to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto for three days in addition to two weeks in Charleston to visit the city of Charleston Archive and Charleston Library Society. Furthermore, the grant covered two and half months in Vienna for research at the city library, the Austrian National Library’s manuscript collection, the Haus-, Hof-, und Staatsarchiv (Imperial Dynastic, Court, and State Archives). The project resulted in a conference presentation as well as material for an article and book to be published.

Heather Morrison received her Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 2005. She has worked as an assistant professor of Early Modern History at State University of New York at New Paltz since 2006.
