Günther Sandner

Günther Sandner received a 2018 fellowship from BIAAS for his project, “Rudolf Modley (1906-1976) – Viennese Picture Language in the USA.”Rudolf Modley worked as a young man for the Social and Economic Museum in interwar Vienna and went to the US in the early 1930s. He became a successful and influential designer, consultant, and organizer of visual information who brought his picture language into virtually every American home. Sandner will use his BIAAS fellowship funding to conduct research on the Modley and the history of graphic communication and visual education.


Günther Sandner is a senior research fellow at the Institute Vienna Circle and lecturer at the University of Vienna.
