Carol Seigel - Muriel Gardiner: Code name ‘Mary’

Carol Seigel received a 2019 BIAAS grant for a project to research and write an exhibition exploring the life of Muriel Gardiner.

The project will raise awareness of an extraordinary American woman, her work in the anti-fascist underground movement in 1930s Austria, and her broader role in the history of psychoanalysis. The research will result in a new exhibition to be shown at the Freud Museum London in summer 2020, as part of the Museum’s wide reaching public programme.

Carol Seigel is Director of the Freud Museum London. She has a degree in History from Cambridge University, and an M.A. in Modern Social and Economic History from Birkbeck, University of London. She has worked in London museums for over twenty five years.
