Application Deadline: September 15, 2023

Grant Period: Four months between October 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025

Grant Award: $20,000.00

Summary: The purpose of the Fulbright-Botstiber Award in Austrian-American Studies in Austria is to promote the understanding of the historical relationship between Austria and the United States. Therefore, it is open to all scholars of Austrian and American studies whose project proposals contribute toward this objective in a combination of teaching and scholarship. Projects may be hosted at any appropriate institution. Fulbright Austria and BIAAS are particularly interested in soliciting applications in the fields of history, the social sciences, economics, and law but also welcome qualified applications from other disciplines, including but not limited to American studies, education, journalism, literature, film/cinema studies, music, philosophy, and the arts. Only applications that are in line with the BIAAS’s bilateral mission will be considered.

Grant proposals require collaboration between potential Fulbright-Botstiber scholars from the United States and potential Austrian host faculty, who will be responsible for effectively anchoring visiting Fulbright-Botstiber scholars in the curriculum, host department, and other activities facilitated by the host institution in Austria.

Flexible combinations of lecturing and research are conceived to allow Fulbright-Botstiber scholars to reach out to students and to simultaneously make scholarly contributions in their disciplines.

Awards may also be conceived to develop new or to promote existing institutional relationships.
