Jonathan Singerton is Assistant Professor of Global Political History at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He received his PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh where his thesis won the Jeremiah Dalziel Prize in British Imperial History. He subsequently served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Austrian Academy of Sciences before taking up a lectureship and research position at the University of Innsbruck where he earned the Liechtenstein Prize for outstanding research. He moved to the Netherlands in 2022, first at the University of Amsterdam before permanently joining VU Amsterdam. His work primarily focuses on the global aspects of Habsburg history with a particular emphasis on North American connections. His first book, The American Revolution and the Habsburg Monarchy (University of Virginia Press, 2022), reflects this agenda as does his current editorship of an Oxford Handbook dedicated to the global history of the Habsburg monarchy. In 2025, another volume (co-edited with Markéta Křížová and Michael Burri) about Habsburg Encounters with Native America will appear with CEU Press.
