BIAAS Event Grants

Purpose

The Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies (BIAAS) seeks grant proposals for events aimed at promoting an understanding of the historic relationships between the United States and Austria (including Habsburg Austria).

Fields of Interest

Eligible fields include, but are not limited to, history, politics, economics, law, cultural studies, literature, science, and religious studies.

What We Fund

Applications may include support for conferences, symposia, seminars, exhibits, workshops, lectures, and other public events, including virtual events, if it can be justified.

Who We Fund

These grants are intended for organizations and institutions. An association of organizations should identify the lead administrative organization in their application.

Individuals may apply on behalf of an organization(s). However, a lead organization which will administer funding should be identified in their application. Please note: designated applicant must be the project director/principal investigator for the intended program.

Grant Amount

The maximum funding an applicant may seek is $25,000; the minimum request is $1,000.

Application Process

Proposals can be submitted on a rolling deadline throughout the year. Applicants are encouraged to review the FAQ page prior to submitting a proposal. Final proposals must be submitted no later than six months before the proposed event is scheduled.

Grant applications will require a narrative description, budget information, an indication of other funding/support, a curriculum vitae of no more than three pages, a bibliography, and two letters of reference. In addition, relevant organizations will need to include their 501c3 designation letters and board member lists. All of these documents should be combined in a single PDF, in the order stipulated here, and submitted to BIAAS@botstiber.org with the subject, [Last Name, Event Grant Proposal].

All complete grant applications are thoroughly evaluated. BIAAS may require additional information. Any discussions or indications of interest should not be interpreted as a commitment to support the Event. Financial and narrative reports are due 90 days after the completion of the event.

Applicants will be notified of BIAAS’s decision by July 31. Supported events must be organized between September 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021.

Additional Resources

Further Considerations

In addition to providing funding opportunities, BIAAS furthers its mission by organizing events; publishing the Journal of Austrian-American History; and engaging with a broader public audience through digital programming to further cultivate a connected online community interested in Austrian-American Studies. Our strategy focuses on our grantees; accordingly, we encourage applications that facilitate promotion of grantee work and work products.

In particular, grantees interested in contributing to BIAAS’s Austro-American Blog Series, The Botstiber Podcast, or publishing event materials (e.g. conference papers, web exhibits, etc.) online or in the Journal of Austrian-American History, are encouraged to apply.
