Part-Time Managing Director
BIAAS seeks a part-time, US-based, Managing Director (MD) to hold a leadership role as an integral part of the Foundation’s programmatic and strategic grant-making staff. The MD would report to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator and would be responsible for program development, grants management, and supervision of BIAAS staff. Under the guidance of the Foundation Administrator and Deputy Administrator, the Managing Director is also responsible for implementing the strategic priorities of the Institute, further developing and maintaining relationships and operating procedure with the board of advisors and developing and overseeing the implementation of BIAAS’s annual workplan.
The following list of job duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and is meant to present a general outline of the position. With support from BIAAS staff and under the general direction of the Foundation Administrator the Managing Director is responsible for:
Implementing the strategic priorities of the Institute
Developing and overseeing the implementation of BIAAS’s annual work plan and budget
Setting measurable goals and objectives for BIAAS’s work
Developing and maintaining relationships with partners
Developing systems and mechanism to improve board communication and input
Overseeing the development and maintenance of BIAAS’s online grant system
Managing BIAAS grant making
Overseeing the development and implementation of BIAAS programming (including digital programming, events and meetings)
Managing the work of the JAAH editor
Managing, supervising and evaluating BIAAS Staff and contractors
Managing the recruitment of BIAAS staff
Other responsibilities may be assigned at discretion of Administrator and Deputy Administrator

Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, and internet search, etc.
Excellent communication skills; written, verbal, and interpersonal
Qualities of dedication, integrity, teamwork, flexibility, and accountability
Willingness to learn new skills and systems as needed by the organization
Position requires sitting at a desk, mobility around office, and occasionally moving supplies and office equipment, when necessary
Education and Experience:
Extensive previous experience managing programs and projects
Extensive previous experience managing staff
This is a flexible part-time position, averaging 20 hours a week dependent upon workload.
Salary and Benefits
Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications. Two weeks paid time-off per calendar year, which is prorated based on start date. Flexible schedule and hours.

BIAAS periodically offers paid internships that gives university students and recent graduates with an interest in Austrian-American studies the opportunity to familiarize themselves with BIAAS’s work and programs, and gain practical work experience, often complementing academic studies in the field.
